Since its formation in the early 1980’s SHS has installed hundreds of footbridges, boardwalks, jetties and related structures throughout the UK.
We have earned a formidable reputation for delivering high quality products and excellent service from concept to completion.
All our structures meet or exceed the requirements of relevant British and European standards and codes of practice. Design and manufacture is carried out by skilled engineers and craftsmen using the most up-to-date equipment. All our work is set in accordance with a quality system that complies with the requirements of NEN-EN-ISO 9001.
CAD drawings are provided with each structure together with supporting design calculations.
SHS offers a full installation service for all of our stuctures. Site visits are undertaken to assess crane requirements and to discuss the best method of installation.
Risk assessments, method statements and safe methods of working are provided before commencement of site works.
Structures are produced from a range of hardwood materials and may include steel to suit specific technical and environmental requirements.
Our timber is sourced from managed forests to the principles established by the Forest Stewardship Council® under our certificate no: NC-COC-005535-AV. View our environmental policy.
The Tilford Bridge restoration near Farnham Surrey won an Institution of Civil Engineers Historic Bridge and Infrastructure award for the Main Contractor. SHS supplied and installed the NI Highways timber parapets.
This follows on the heels of a similar success for SHS and Project Managers Interroute at the ICE Kent and East Sussex Thomas Brassey Awards, where the Itford Farm Bridleway Bridge was judged to be the best in its category.
For centuries timber has been one of the most important and widely used of the world’s natural resources. There is increasing public awareness of the need to maintain this valuable resource, to ensure that it is not used in a manner detrimental to the environment, and as part of this awareness to ask questions about the source of timber.
In accordance with our long established policy, and as a general rule, timber used within the manufacture of SHS bridges, is obtained from responsible sources.
In all cases we are able to provide evidence in the form of chain of custody certification. For example, we can supply bridges utilising timber from well managed forests and other controlled sources independently certified to the principles and criteria set out by the Forest Stewardship Council® Certificate number NC-COC-005535-AV.
We will be pleased to provide further information on timber sources and environmental impact, including advice on designing to meet enviromental criteria. Simply, get in touch.
